56 DAYS, by Catherine Ryan Howard, narrated by Alana Kerr Collins

Mystery/Thriller -- 4 1/2 stars

Audiobook Narration -- 4 1/2 stars

Book:  Ciara and Oliver are both new to Dublin when they meet in a grocery store queue.  Sparks fly on their first date, but the city is about to shut down because of the Covid-19 pandemic.  Ciara is renting a drab studio apartment.  Oliver suggests she join him in his larger, light-filled home.  No one knows they are together. What could go wrong?  When two Dublin detectives are called to investigate the discovery of a dead body in a Dublin apartment block, they need to start by identifying the players, and that's going to be a problem. -----  Skipping back and forth over a fifty-six day period, Ms. Howard carefully unwraps truth and lies like gifts concealed in pretty paper--each one an unexpected surprise. Even the twists have twists in this identity defying story that will leave your head spinning right up to the last word.  Victim and perpetrator, good and evil, vengeance and forgiveness are only meaningless words is this well-written, character driven mystery where history holds the only key.

Narration:  Happy to say this book introduced me to another strong showing by a female reader.  No crutches, just good, straight story-telling.  Thank you, Ms. Collins.
