CHOOSE ME, by Tess Gerritsen and Gary Braver

Mystery/Thriller -- 3 1/2 stars

It all started when Taryn Moore had trouble accepting that her boyfriend had broken up with her.  That is, until she realized her English seminar professor would replace him nicely.  Through it all, a fellow student has remained close, hoping for more from Taryn.  But now, Taryn is lying dead on the sidewalk below her fifth floor apartment's balcony.  It's being called a suicide, but Detective Frankie Loomis has questions. ----- If you're going to write a book with a disturbingly unlikable main character, you need to make her interesting or at least sadly unaware.  The authors have managed both.  They've also made her diabolical.  Reading this book is like being forced to watch a train wreck; you know it's not going to end well, but you're helpless to repair the track.  Cleverly leaving all the suspects viable until the very end, Ms. Gerritsen and Mr. Braver have created an ending that refuses to forgive Taryn Moore for being who she was.
