MOONFLOWER MURDERS, by Anthony Horowitz

 Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars

Magpie Murders - Book 2

Susan Ryeland was a book editor up until her best selling author, Alan Conway, ruined the publishing house that employed her.  Now she runs a hotel in Crete.  That is where the Trehearnes find her.  Their daughter is missing, and before her disappearance, she claimed that a true crime book edited by Ms. Ryeland had gotten the guilty party wrong.  The Trehearnes are sure this has something to do with their missing daughter.  Would Ms. Ryeland be willing to help? ----- Suspects, suspects, suspects; everyone is a suspect.  Positioning Susan Ryeland as a detective of sorts pushes the believability quotient to the nth degree, but it is a flaw that quickly fades into the background in this well-plotted, twisty, complicated whodunit that keeps you thinking right until the end.  While this is a stand alone mystery, reading the first book in this series, Magpie Murders (another twisty, exciting mystery that earned a 5 star rating), will add depth to the repeat characters.  I don't know where Mr. Horowitz can take Susan Ryeland after this, but when (if) he does, I'll be waiting.
