THE EMPTY BED, by Nina Sadowsky
Mystery/Thriller -- 2 stars
The Burial Society - Book 2
A family is in hiding in Mexico while one member is waiting to testify in a pharmaceutical trial, the wife and child of a New York businessman are missing, and the wife of a couple on a second honeymoon in Hong Kong has disappeared. All of them are connected with a personal protection business in some way, but are there other involvements that put them all in more danger? ----- Three separate stories, three sets of private investigators, overlapping personal relationships, partner antipathy, criminal Triads, inept politicians... You get the idea. The result is overstuffed, unfocused, and shallow. With a story like this, you expect the three threads to meet in a grand finale of resolution; instead Ms. Sadowsky serves up three separate endings--none of them satisfying--with connections that are so inconsequential you wonder why the author bothered.
