OF BLOOD AND BONE, by Nora Roberts
Fantasy -- 5 stars
Chronicles of the One Trilogy - Book 2
The virus' survivors--"magickals" and those without magic--have formed small settlements and are attempting to rebuild their lives, together. The Raiders, survivors who chose the dark side, are still out there, but a new wrinkle has formed: Purity Warriors who want nothing more than to eradicate anyone who they see as tainted by the gift of magic. Meanwhile, Fallon Swift is approaching her thirteenth birthday, a day she knows will mean leaving her peaceful life on her family's isolated farm to train with the mysterious Mallick. She knows she is special, she just doesn't know how much or why. ----- This second book in the trilogy is largely taken up with Fallon's training. It is much more Harry Potter-ish than the first book, and maybe a little more fun for that. Eventually, the time comes to prepare for the war the survivors know is coming which brings the focus back to the survivor settlements and the enemies they will face. A few surprises near the end set the stage for book 3--which has a long wait list at the library. I hope those people are fast readers, because I want my copy yesterday.
