THE ESCAPE ROOM, by Megan Goldin

Mystery/Thriller -- 4 stars

Vincent, Sylvie, Jules, and Sam are at the top of their game in the investment business.  When team leader, Vincent, hires new MBA graduate Sarah Hall to join their team, everything seems fine--until Sarah takes a business concern to Vincent, after which her team decides she is dispensable.  A big promotion is possible for one of the remaining team, but when the golden foursome starts to lose out in big deals, they find themselves invited to a team building exercise to see who still has "it." The story alternates between chapters keeping track of the group's efforts to solve the escape room, and those that tell the tale of how they ended up there in the first place.  A novel that proves the adage "Revenge is a dish best served cold." ----- A well-paced novel that exposes the dirty underbelly of high end investment banking.  The alternating chapters slowly build the back story, adding layers to the characters step by revealing step.  The ending is clever, maybe too clever, but satisfying.
