BLOODY GENIUS, by John Sandford, narrated by Eric Conger

Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars
Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars

Virgil Flowers - Book 12
Book: A renowned medical researcher and scholar is found dead in a university library carrel.  With multiple ex-wives, an estranged daughter, an ongoing feud with a fellow lecturer, and a sizable inheritance on the table, Virgil Flowers is sent to investigate. The detective already on the case is not exactly enthusiastic about his arrival. ----- The many suspects circling this case give Virgil and his reluctant partner plenty of lies and half-truths to sort through.  Fortunately, Mr. Sandford does not dwell on the unwanted new partner scenario, which has been done to death by other writers, but instead lets it dissolve gracefully as the many story threads begin to unravel and the partner grows into a strong character in her own right.  The suspects are all interestingly flawed in some way, which makes them that more suspect.  Virgil Flowers was created by Mr. Sandford to possess an easy, lighthearted sarcasm that cloaks his determined, no rock unturned personality and makes him a likable every man.  Who says murder mysteries can't be fun?

Narration: Eric Conger does it again with his pitch perfect creation of one of my favorite character driven series.
