THE KEEPSAKE, by Tess Gerritsen

Mystery/Thriller -- 4 stars

Rizzoli & Isles - Book 7
The Crispin Museum in Boston has been in the family for decades.  It's small and flies pretty much under the radar.  That is, until a centuries old Egyptian mummy is discovered in the basement archives.  The public is fascinated, and the museum is only to happy to have a new star attraction.  Then they have the mummy scanned at a local hospital, and their new money maker turns into an albatross.  Fake names, missing people, rich sponsors, absent sons, lost mothers, all wrapped up in an archaeological dig that started in Egypt. If Rizzoli has her way, the secrets and lies are going to end in Boston.  ----- Isles is pretty much missing from this book, but Rizzoli more than holds her own.  I'll admit to being a lover of museums, which made me happy with this book even before the story really got started.  But when it did, it only improved.  I had part of the solution pegged early on, but the surprises in getting there were fun.  The final double/triple twist was especially satisfying.  This is a series that is based on the same law enforcement characters, but it is not necessary to read them in order to enjoy them.  Well-plotted, if maybe a little heavy on the warm and fuzzies.
