THE NEVER GAME, by Jeffery Deaver
Mystery/Thriller -- 3 1/2 stars
Colter Shaw - Book 1
Colter Shaw is a man who makes his living by finding lost people. When he takes on the task of finding a missing young woman, he has no idea she is only the beginning. When he discovers there are more people missing from the same small area, he thinks he sees a pattern. Can they be victims of a real-life version of a video game. If so, who is responsible? The game's creator? His competition? Or is there someone else out there who wants his victims to: "Escape if you can. Or die with dignity." ----- Colter Shaw is the latest Deaver creation, and he has some serious potential. This first book has all the trademark twists and turns of a Jeffery Deaver novel, without the technical aspects that can bog down some of his other series. To make the series really work though, Colter Shaw himself could use some fleshing out. He is likable, but he could be a lot more interesting. I didn't see the final twist coming, and that is always a good thing.
