DEVIL'S DAY, by Andrew Michael Hurley, narrated by Richard Burnip

Literature -- 4 stars
Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars

Book:  John Pentecost grew up on the edge of the moors in the Endlands, an isolated area steeped in superstition and tradition.  Now he lives in the city and makes his living as a teacher, but every fall he returns to the farm where he grew up to help bring the sheep in from the moors.  This year is different.  His grandfather has died, which means well-defined familial roles are changing.  Also, John, who is now married, brings his pregnant wife, Katherine with him.  Unversed in the ways of the Endlands, Katherine is completely unprepared for the harshness of life on the moors, and the unwelcome atmosphere in John's childhood home. -----  Highly atmospheric, this is a book that moves so slowly it seems to stand still; then suddenly you realize the story has wrapped itself around you like a warm blanket--one that smells of damp, and sheep, and secrets.

Narration:  Perfectly paced to match the style of the book, with clear characterizations and story-telling that holds your interest throughout.
