THE LIES WE TOLD, by Camilla Way

Mystery/Thriller -- 4 1/2 stars

Two very different families; one is perfect with successful parents and happy children, grown into happy and successful adulthood--except for the teen-aged daughter who left 20 years ago and never returned who no one talks about. The other is working class with a child straight out of The Bad Seed.  They're connected, but not until Luke (family one) disappears shortly after moving in with his girlfriend, Clara, do their lies begin to catch up with them.  This is one of those books where you know the stories have to connect, but you have no idea how.  Well plotted, Ms. Way holds off revealing the connection until the very last minute, and it is surprising, satisfying, and ultimately sad.  The only real fault is an overly long "after the solution" section, but then where else to reveal one last lie?
