Mystery/Thriller -- 3 1/2 stars
Lisa is a single mother with a good job who tries to live her life quietly and out of sight. There are secrets she'd do anything to keep hidden. When her teen-aged daughter saves a young boy from drowning, she finds her quiet life collapsing around her and her secret is out for the world to judge--and they do so harshly. Then her daughter disappears and she starts to fight back. From the first page, you know calamity is inevitable, but what it is and what happens afterwards jumps right into the heart of the unexpected. A book with an unimaginative beginning that gives way to twists and turns and a lesson in forgiveness.
