TREE OF AGES, by Sara Roethle

Fantasy -- 3 stars

Tree of Ages - Book #1
Finn has been a tree for a hundred years; then she awakens on the forest floor in the body of a young woman.  An old hermit takes her in where memories unfurl that seem to hint at a life before the forest. When Finn decides it is time to venture into the world to find answers to who (or what) she really is, the hermit goes with her.  Along the way they join a pair of mapmakers who are traveling with a couple with royal blood and their sellsword.  Finn is a mystery, even to herself; but her companions hold secrets of their own. -----  I was searching for a good fantasy series when I came upon this book.   It started off with a bang--a girl who was a tree?  What's not to love?  I wish I could say the book was great, but, unfortunately after the first few pages, it settled into a path worn thin by previous authors.  Not a bad book, but I'm okay with waiting a while until I need another fantasy fix before I look for the next book in the series.
