GLASS HOUSES, by Louise Penny, narrated by Robert Bathurst
Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars
Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars
Inspector Gamache - Book #13
Book: A mysterious figure appears in the village of Three Pines, standing, unmoving, on the village green. Then one of the guests at the inn is found dead in the church, and the figure disappears. Months later, Gamache is in court as a witness in the murder trial, but is he telling the truth? The book moves between Gamache at court, the story in the village, the history of the mysterious figure, and some behind the scene mechanizations that may cost Gamache his position with the Montreal police. ----- I have loved these Inspector Gamache books from the beginning, and this is one of the best in the series. The characters are well drawn, sometimes funny, and always interesting. The village feels like a place I could call home. The series has always dealt with death, but in a way that can only be described as gently, though this book has more action than the previous twelve books. If you like detectives with sophistication and class, you will love this series. In some ways, Gamache is a French Canadian Sherlock Holmes, only with a wider circle of friends. It is a series that should be read in order. Start with book #1, Still Life.
Narration: Mr. Bathurst reads in a style that fits the Gamache mystique perfectly. Easy listening with heart.
