THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT, by Chris Bohjalian

Mystery/Thriller -- 3 stars

Cassandra Bowden is a flight attendant.  She's also a binge drinker who loves to party.  When she wakes after an overnight stay in Dubai to find herself covered in blood and in bed with a dead man, she could call the police.  Instead, she showers, dresses, and shows up at the airport to work her return flight to the U.S.  Now the F.B.I. and the Dubai police are very interested in Cassandra Bowden.  This is unlike any other Bohjalian book I've ever read, and not in a good way.  Maybe it's because I just couldn't bring myself to feel anything except antipathy for his heroine (anti-heroine?), but rather than the emotional impact I've found in his other books, I found just another mystery/thriller that could have been written by anyone.  If you want to experience the powerful storytelling that this author is capable of, pick up SKELETONS AT THE FEAST.  I read that book years ago and it still stays with me.
