THE WOMAN IN THE WOODS, by John Connolly

Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars

Charlie Parker #16
A tree topples in the woods.  Tangled in the roots is the body of a young woman.  Forensic examination concludes she had given birth shortly before her death; but where is the infant? While the police work the case, private detective Charlie Parker is hired to shadow them.  Two investigations may seem like over-kill, but there is also a third searcher--and he isn't one of the good guys.  An eerie, detailed, and complicated plot with a touch of otherworldly-ness that is moved along by excellent writing.  I have never read a Charlie Parker book, but I'll be looking for more.  FYI: there doesn't seem to be any need to read this series in order.  I was unaware it was part of a series until I had finished.
