THE THINNEST AIR, by Minka Kent

Mystery/Thriller -- 3 1/2 stars

Meredith Price is living in a big house in a resort mountain town with her older, wealthy husband, and she is bored.  Her mother never was much into single-motherhood, so Meredith was raised by her older sister, Greer.  Greer lives in New York where she and her ex-boyfriend own a string of coffee shops. Greer has never liked Meredith's husband and her ex-boyfriend has never like Meredith.  Then Meredith disappears, and the finger-pointing begins.  Strangely formulaic, until it's not.  The characters are distinct and believable, if not terribly original.  The way the conclusion is reached is a refreshing change from the bloody, high body count stories that seem to proliferate in this genre.
