THE SHADOWED SUN, by N.K. Jemisin
Fantasy -- 4 1/2 stars
Dreamblood - Book 2
Gujaareh, a city of peace has been taken over by the Kisuati Protectorate. Violence is now a part of daily life. It gets worse when people begin dying from their nightmares. Two Gujaareh priests are sent to a barbarian desert tribe though they are not told why. Once accepted by the tribe, they realize the last son of Gujaareh's last Prince is there and is determined to take back his city, if only a way can be found to halt the nightmare plague. ----- This book completes the Dreamblood story, and it is so much better than Book 1. While Gujarreh/Kisuati politics and religion are still at war, the focus in book two is on the people, and interesting people they are, with all the faults and strengths of people everywhere. Still not as strong as Ms. Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy, but enjoyable nonetheless.
