THE KILLING MOON, by N.K. Jemison

Fantasy -- 3 stars

Dreamblood - Book 1
In the city of Gujaareh, there are followers of the Goddess Hananja, called Gatherers, who harvest dreams and use them to heal and to bring a peaceful death to those who choose.  But where there is power, there is corruption, and Guhaareh is no different.  A Gatherer abomination is stalking the streets and Ehiru and his apprentice need to find out who is behind it. -----  I loved Ms. Jemison's Broken Earth trilogy, three books that set the barr really high for my next delve into her writing.  In The Killing Moon, she has once again created a world with a new and creative set of physiological and mystical "rules," but the politics of this imagined civilization seem to overpower the personal relationships.  It may be that the book took too long to develop any real focus.  By the end, I was engrossed, but I'm not sure I really ever cared about the people who inhabited the story.  That being said, I have started Book 2.  I'll let you know.
