Book: The Cates family is back causing trouble for game warden Joe Pickett and his family. When one person overhears their plans, he is murdered--and Joe Pickett witnesses it from a helicopter. Now all he has to do is prove it was them before his family is next. This is a great series. Joe Pickett walks a moral high ground on all issues, but the chance of him becoming cloying is mitigated by his friendship with his best friend, Nate, who leans on the shady side of the law. ----- This 17th story is excellent; it was bringing back the Cates' that cost a half-star. New ideas, new villains are what keeps a series going. Rehashing old wrongs--no matter how grievous--always seems weak. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed what was offered and have my eye out for the next book in this series.
Narration: I'm sure that David Chandler IS Joe Pickett in real life. There can be no other explanation for how seamlessly he falls into these stories. One of the best.
