Nine years have passed and Owen, mentored by Duke Horwath, has become a confident and resourceful young man. He is in love with the Duke's granddaughter, Elysabeth, but the King plans to stand in the way of their future together by using Elysabeth as a pawn in his fight to save his throne from the hands of a pretender. Spies and poisoners swirl around Owen, war is imminent, and he has a choice to make. ----- A great continuation of the story. The characters are interesting and well-developed, the story is complex without being overwhelming.
