THE CUTTING SEASON, by Attica Locke
Mystery/Thriller -- 3 stars
Two stories--one of a slave who disappeared over 100 years ago, the second a death at a historic plantation now used as an expensive party/wedding venue. Venue manager Caren Gray has ties to the plantation that go back to the antebellum South, ties she'd like to leave behind. Interesting, but somehow flat. All the right components are there, they're even interesting; but they never seem to mesh completely.
