LOST CHILD, by D.S. Butler

Mystery/Thriller - 2 stars

Beth Farrow let go of her three year-old niece's hand for just a few seconds, but it was long enough for little Jenna to disappear.  Three years later, Beth is living in Dubai when someone sends her a picture of a little girl who looks like Jenna.  Beth flies home to a family that is still torn apart by the tragedy, and into a small town where she is now an outsider.  This story, while not entirely original, had promise, but...  The story didn't flow and the writing was repetitious. (Hint: we get that Beth is troubled, and feeling guilty, and doing something she shouldn't, we don't have to  be reminded every third page.) Beth may have been intended to be seen as intense, but she came off as whiny, selfish and totally unlikable. The book gets points for its fast pace, but somehow the ending lacks energy.
