Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars
Scotland, 1864--a small farming village is shocked by a brutal triple murder. Intelligent, shy, and quiet 17 year-old Roderick Macrae is arrested for the crime. Written as a collection of period documents and interviews, this is not your average crime story. Darkly atmospheric, part history lesson, part psychological investigation, totally original. Roderick Macrae is a complex and not unsympathetic character. His story is worth waiting for.
