AMERICAN HEIRESS, by Daisy Goodwin
Literature -- 3 1/2 stars
It is the era of the Vanderbilts when Cora Cash and her mother travel to England in search of an aristocratic husband for Cora. She lands the most eligible bachelor in the kingdom, but finds that money has its limits when it comes to happiness. Uncomfortable and made to feel like an outsider, there are secrets she needs to discover if she is to ever be truly happy. A little bit gothic novel, a little bit Downton Abbey, it is a well written story with a heroine to love. I'm not really a romance reader, so I hesitated when this book was suggested to me. The story is more a story of one woman's search for the truth minus the bodice ripping. Not quite Edith Wharton, but an enjoyable read.
