Mystery/Thriller -- 2 1/2 stars
When Holly's husband is killed in a hit and run accident, she is left with a teen-aged daughter to raise with no financial support. While recuperating from her own injuries, a stranger makes her an offer she can't turn down. Now her finances are secure, but what about the truth? ----- I wish Ms. Walter had delved more deeply into character development early on. The situation pulled the characters forward with only cursory thought, though the early absent reasoning ended up playing a large part in the way things turned out. The lapse/connection left a void. The sorting out of events at the ending did answer a question hinted at in earlier chapters, but the happily-ever-after finish came completely out of left field. I wanted better treatment for a what-would-I-do life juncture.
