Hercule Poirot - Book 4
Book: Roger Ackroyd believes someone is blackmailing the woman he loves. Continuing his investigation after she commits suicide, Mr. Ackroyd receives a letter naming the blackmailer, but before he can expose the culprit, he is found stabbed to death. The letter is nowhere to be found. Fortunately, Hercule Poirot has retired to this small village and is convinced to take over the case. ----- I've read a lot of Agatha Christie, but somehow missed this one. I wish I could remember who recommended it because I am eternally grateful. This may be the best A.C. mystery ever. So many suspects, so many explanations, so many secrets exposed. All, of course, leading up to the final scene where Mr. Poirot gathers everyone together to regale them with his brilliant conclusion. Except this time, there's a twist.
Narration: Hugh Fraser is perfect. He keeps the pace moving, all the characters separate, and sounds fantastic doing it.
