ONE BY ONE, by Ruth Ware

Mystery/Thriller -- 4 stars

A company getaway at a fancy ski resort in the French Alps, complete with a world class chef and a housekeeper, turns tragic when one of the company founders disappears on a ski run.  Before a rescue attempt can be made, an avalanche cuts off all contact with the outside world.  Then the survivors start dying. ----- Ruth Ware has been called the Agatha Christie of the modern world.  If there were ever any doubts, this book should dispel them.  It is impossible to believe that Ms. Christie's "Ten Little Indians" wasn't on Ruth Ware's mind when she wrote this.  But, never fear, this is not a watered down rewrite; it is entirely new, fresh, and has a much more exciting ending.  The characters are interesting with flaws and secrets that add layers to the story.  I did see the ending coming, but not until it was on top of me.

SPOILER ALERT: Why the guests who made it out didn't send help for those left behind left the epilogue type finish a bit open ended--something Agatha Christie would never have allowed.
