THE YELLOW WALLPAPER, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

Literature -- 5 stars

A young mother, married to a physician, finds herself isolated in a country house--chosen by her husband, sleeping in a bedroom--chosen by her husband, and forbidden to write--an edict by her husband.  The wallpaper becomes her secret companion as she slowly goes mad. ----- Written in 1892, this 24 page, early feminist short story is beautiful and haunting and frightening in equal measure.  Eerie and moving.
