Sancia and her scriving friends have an ingenious plan to take down the elite Merchant Houses. On the cusp of their success, bad news arrives: someone has found a way to bring Crasedes back from the dead, and he's on his way to Tevanne. ----- Mr. Bennett manages to avoid the second book slump that so often happens in trilogies. If anything, this book is better. With the technical aspects laid out pretty completely in book one, he can put his full effort into creating exciting, imaginative, and frustrating action that doesn't slow down for long techie explanations. Roadblocks and totally original solutions lead the story to an unexpected climax. The characters are still vivid and well drawn, though they haven't been allowed to grow much in this second volume, and some of the humor has been lost. But I'm still going to look forward to the conclusion in book three. Write quickly, Mr. Bennett!
