MASKED PREY, by John Sandford

Mystery/Thriller -- 3 stars

Lucas Davenport - Book 30
When the daughter of a U.S. Senator uses facial recognition software to check if her blog is getting shared, she comes across another site that features photos of the children of other Senators paired with far right propaganda.  It's obvious the photos were taken with a telephoto lense.  Is it a threat? ----- This is a hard book to get into.  Fully the first half is so dense with names and connections to White Supremacist groups that it becomes overwhelming and boring.  Even when an innocent is shot, the flow remains somewhat flat.  The solutions, when they come, are only semi-satisfying.  The identification of the site's author comes out of nowhere, and the unmasking of the shooter is a matter of luck, not good detective work.  I haven't read a Lucas Davenport book in a while, but I'll be sticking with Mr. Sandford's Virgil Flowers series from now on.  Better stories, more likable characters.
