BIG LITTLE LIES, by Liane Moriarty
Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars
It's time for kindergarten orientation for the local 5 year olds, but it's the parents who need watching. Madeline's daughter will be starting school with her ex-husband's 5 year old daughter from his re-marriage...awkward. Celeste, the richest and most beautiful among them, has twin boys ready to start their education. Newcomer and single mother, Jane, has registered her son Ziggy. When an incident at orientation pits these three mothers against the "Blonde Bobs," things heat up. Add alcohol into a school event, and an ugly explosion is inevitable. ----- We know there is a police investigation into a death from the beginning; but, in an original twist, Ms. Moriarty keeps the victim's identity a secret until the very last pages while she fills in all the backstabbing bitchiness that got this small group of parents to that point. Fast pacing with characters who are an interesting mix of innocent and nasty. As, one by one, their closely held secrets are exposed, we learn nobody's life is what it seems, child and adult alike.
