LYING NEXT TO ME, by Gregg Olsen

Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars

Adam and Sophie are vacationing at a cozy cottage with their small daughter.  One morning, Sophie is sitting on the shore while Adam and their daughter are crabbing from a small rowboat, when Adam sees a stranger attack his wife.  By the time he gets the boat to shore, his wife has disappeared.  The people in the other cottages didn't know Adam or Sophie and didn't see anything.  The only other witness is an older man who was walking his dog further down the beach.  The detective in charge of the investigation is someone Adam knew as a teenager.  She knows Adam is a good man, but her partner isn't so sure--about her friend Adam or the other cottagers. ----- Well paced, with characters who are both fallible and totally believable.  The clues are all there, you just have to read between the lines to arrive at the satisfying and unexpected ending.
