THE WICKED KING, by Holly Black

Fantasy -- 3 stars

The Folk of the Air - Book 2
Jude has discovered that her young brother, Oak, is heir to Faerie.  To keep him safe, she has sent him back to the human world  hoping to keep him there until he is old enough to claim his crown.  Now Jude must keep acting king Cardan under control and keep herself alive in a world where no one trusts her and she can't trust anyone.  Her attempt to keep Oak as far away from Faerie as possible is foiled when her sister invites him to her wedding. ----- The first book in this series was a 5 star story, so I was really looking forward to this installment.  Maybe I was hoping for too much, but this book just didn't live up to my expectations.  There is a lot of talk and not much action.  The imaginative descriptions and secondary characters that made the first book come alive all but disappeared, and I missed them.  The end product seems like a place holder for things to come, even more so by the fact that, despite the slow pace, this book manages to end on a major cliffhanger.  I'll be reading book 3, but with tempered anticipation.
