HALL OF MIRRORS, by Christopher Fowler, narrated by Tim Goodman

Mystery/Thriller -- 3 stars
Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars

Bryant and May - Book #16
Book: This Bryant and May book skips back to an earlier time in the octogenarians' careers, to the mid 1960s.  Bryant and May are tasked with protecting a star witness at a fraud and manslaughter trial.  When the witness insists on joining a weekend country house party, the detectives are forced to go along.  A military exercise--with live ammunition--and bad weather leave them and all the guests isolated and unable to escape the series of deaths that follow. -----  This is an odd Bryant and May book.  The premise and the setting leaves the two detectives without their supporting cast, and the gentle humor that usually infuses these stories suffers for that.  The style is more Hercule Poirot than Bryant and May.  It's a decent story, but if I were in the mood for an Agatha Christie book, I wouldn't have picked up Hall of Mirrors.

Narration:  Tim Goodman is, once again and as expected, perfection.
