THE DISAPPEARED, by C.J. Box, narrated by David Chandler

Mystery/Thriller -- 4 1/2 stars
Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars

Joe Pickett Series - #18
Book:  Wyoming's new governor sends game warden Pickett on an investigation into a missing English tourist who failed to return home after a stay at a fancy dude ranch.  A seemingly second story involves a lumber mill and the secret burning going on there in the middle of the night.  ----- The two stories eventually merge, but there is something slightly unsatisfying about it.  It's not bad, it's actually quite good, but I felt a mild sense of disappointment when I came to the end.  The usual outrage that these books bring seemed to be missing, and that may have been the subject matter, or it may have been I was simply looking for someone else to pay.  Still, the trip was enjoyable and a worthy addition to the series.

Narration:  David Chandler is at his usual excellent self.  He's easy to listen to, offers clear characterizations, and keeps the book moving along at what seems to be the perfect laid back Wyoming pace without losing any of the necessary urgency.  His narration is as comfortable as a much loved flannel shirt.
