ORPHAN X, by Gregg Hurwitz, narration by Scott Brick
Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars
Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars
Orphan X - Book #1
Book: Evan Smoak, was 12 years old, growing up in an orphanage, when he was chosen to be trained for a secret government program. Now an adult and no longer working for the government, Evan is known as the Nowhere Man, a mix of Batman and James Bond, dedicated to helping the helpless by any means necessary. His well thought out life is upended by one of his "clients," and the race is on. ----- Every character becomes suspect in some way, which only adds to the intrigue. Action scenes are whipped to a high pace, reflective scenes play true. The technical aspects of this book are amazing, intriguing, almost unimaginable, but still accessible to the un-techie. In some ways, it reminded me of Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, but for adults. There are two more books in this series. I hope they hold up, because this one was fun.
Narration: Scott Brick is a reader who I sometimes love and sometimes don't quite love. In this case his narration exhibits a good grasp of the genre, making for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
