PURPLE CANE ROAD, by James Lee Burke, read by Nick Sullivan

Mystery Thriller -- 4 stars
Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars

Dave Robicheaux - Book #11
Book:  Dave Robicheaux is a Louisiana deputy with a best friend who is a drunk, and an adopted teen-age daughter who attracts the unwanted, romantic attention of a killer for hire.  While helping with one incident, Dave comes across information that could lead him to finding who killed his mother while he was still a boy. ----- This is one of the earlier books in this series--I believe there are 20 Dave Robicheaux books now-- and I don't think it's one of the best; but this series is so good that "not best" still means pretty darn good.  I came upon this series late, and I can say that, while reading them in order will help keep the personal life aspects straight, each book is so solid that out-of-order reading won't diminish the enjoyment.

Narration:  Nick Sullivan's narration is just the relaxed touch that this story, so steeped in New Orleans atmosphere, needs. Listening to him, you can almost smell the bayou.  Distinct characters, clear narration. One of my favorite readers.
