THE WICKED BOY, by Kate Summerscale

Historical Fiction, True Crime -- 2 stars

In 1895 London, two brothers Robert (13) and Nate Coombs (12) tell neighbors their mother is visiting family in Liverpool.  She really is lying upstairs dead, but that doesn't stop the brothers from enjoying the good life and inviting friends into their home.  This is an unemotional imagining of a real life case; so unemotional that the distancing made the story uninteresting.  It may have made a short story, but by the end of this I was just bored.   I love Kate Summerscale books, but this one was a big disappointment.
