THE FISHERMAN, by John Langan

Horror -- 3 stars

The story takes place in two different times.  In the present day, two widowers bond over their love of fishing.  They are warned away from a remote area below a dam that locals call the Place of the Fisherman, but who listens when there's a new fishing spot to try?  In the past, there is a town where the dam stands now. Construction of the dam is ongoing; then Das Fischer moves in.  He's still there and he has some plans for the two widowers.  The writing style is way beyond what usually passes for horror.  The book blurb says the author had trouble finding a publisher because his style was too literary.  I agree and disagree.  The telling of the legend was beautiful, but the wordiness does get old as the story moves on.
