HISTORY OF WOLVES, by Emily Fridlund

Literature -- 2 1/2 stars

Linda lives with her parents in what was once upon a time a thriving commune.  Her unusual upbringing makes her an outsider in her high school where she desperately wants to belong.  She finds herself drawn to her history teacher, but when he is charged with possessing child pornography, Linda is once again alone.  Then a new family moves in across the lake and she is hired as their babysitter.  The new family seems to be just what Linda is looking for.  I found the story to be unfocused and all the characters slightly creepy which added to the fuzzy sameness.  I couldn't stop hoping for someone to wake up and realize how icky everyone was.
