Mystery/Thriller -- 3 stars
The pope is dead, and one-hundred eighteen cardinals are in Rome to choose the next head of the Catholic church. It seems even holy men have ambition--and enemies. I was disappointed again. Time after time I have purchased books by Robert Harris only to think, "Oh, so close." Somehow his books just never rise to the level of their descriptions for me This one is no different. While there are interesting details, especially about how the conclave works, and even a twist at the end, I just could not get excited enough to care about characters who seemed flat and uninspiring.
