ANOTHER BROOKLYN, by Jacqueline Woodson
Literature -- 4 stars
1970 is just a memory until August runs into an old friend and she re-examines that time when girl friends told each other everything and believed they were special. They ambled through streets unaware of the ugly underneath--an ugly where girls were taken and mothers disappeared and special didn't mean as much anymore. While the story seemed choppy at times, the characters held together and kept me interested, though the overall feeling I took away at the end was one of sadness.
