Horror -- 3 stars
The Sighting - Book 3
Two tiny islands, isolated except for their proximity to each other, and each the location of a single hotel, are getting ready to close for the Christmas holiday, with the last guests scheduled to leave over the next weekend. Gianna, an employee on one of the islands, will stay on duty until they reopen. Danny Lynch has been following the creature for years now, and he believes this may be the next place it shows up. Then guests start disappearing, and he knows he is right; because they're not leaving by ferry. ----- This is the conclusion to a horror trilogy that has been solid, if not completely original. Mr. Coleman brings the creature story to a close by introducing the creature's life pattern, and the people who have aided in its continuation for generations. There were several delays in releasing this final book in the trilogy, and it does lack the depth of character that was a hallmark of the first two books. I couldn't help but wonder if it was rushed to completion. The ending is satisfying, but the journey to get to it was a bit disappointing. Still, this trilogy is perfect for a Friday night horror movie fest in three parts.
