THE HIDDEN HOURS, by Sara Foster, narrated by Anthea Greco

Mystery/Thriller -- 3 stars

Audiobook Narration -- 5 stars

Book:  Executive big shot, Arabella Lane, is found drowned in the Thames the morning following her company's Christmas party.  Eleanor, recently arrived in England from Australia and a new company assistant, was last seen with her; but she can't remember anything.  After she finds Arabella's ring in her pocket, Eleanor looks for help from her cousin and another employee with whom she has formed a friendship.  Are they helping her or themselves?  Eleanor is just one in what becomes a long list of suspects.  Arabella's company is like a corporate Peyton Place; everyone seems to be having an affair with someone.    Muddying the waters further, Eleanor finds that her cousin and his wife (also company employees) are having their own marital problems and their young girls are depending more and more on an unstable Eleanor to be an anchor in their lives. ----- With all that is going on in this story, it should be more interesting.  The police pop in and out, but somehow seem detached from the investigation.   The Arabella mystery reads like filler for the background story of Eleanor's childhood in Australia which is by far the more interesting story.  Lots of characters, but Eleanor is the only one really explored.  The rest are each distinctive, but not very deep which earns this character driven novel only a "meh."

Narration:  Finally! A female reader who simply reads--no cutesy voices, no fake vocal timbres--just clear, well-paced story telling.  Well done, Ms. Greco.  You deserve a better vehicle.
