Joe Pickett - Book 20
Book: While out on the trail investigating a grizzly attack, Joe is called back for an all-hands-on-deck investigation into the attempted shooting of a judge. The new sheriff is clueless, and refuses to accept any answers but his own. When he arrests Joe's best friend Nate Romanowski, Joe knows it's up to him to find the real shooter. ----- Another hit for the Joe Pickett series. Familiar characters make reappearances while some new ones show up to muddy the mystery waters and join the suspect list. The story adds layers by reaching back into the series' history, but it is the final twist that brings a sad and surprising ending. This is a series that really needs to be read in order. Each is a complete story, but Mr. Box builds dense connections between characters and their intertwined histories that can only be appreciated as a continued narrative. The best thing is, every book in the series is a hit.
Narration: David Chandler's relaxed style and well-paced narration is a gift to this series. No one better.
