THE BUTTERFLY GIRL, by Rene Denfeld

Mystery/Thriller -- 2 1/2 stars

Child Finder - Book 2
When she was just a child herself, Naomi escaped from a pedophile's prison leaving her younger sister behind.  She promised she'd come back, but the trauma erased her memory.  Now an adult who makes her living finding lost children, Naomi is beginning to remember and she is determined to keep her promise. But how do you find someone whose name is lost in your memory and when you have no idea what she may look like? ----- The first book in this series, The Child Finder, was a 5-star thrill, well written, fast paced, top notch.  This book suffers from sophomore slump.  Glacial pacing and a repetitious story line finally give way to good story telling, but too late to make a difference.  At the same time, the quirks that made Naomi an interesting character are smoothed over, making her just another bland detective with a good heart. Considerable time is used at the end of the book tying up loose ends, but they are more treacle than satisfying.
