Mystery/Thriller -- 4 1/2 stars
The town's war hero and leading citizen shoots and kills the Methodist pastor, then tells the church janitor he'll be at home waiting for the sheriff. It's obvious he has a reason, but he refuses to say what it is or to aide his lawyer in his defense. -----
Part murder mystery, part family drama, part legal procedural, all John Grisham. The family history plays out in the background of the court case in tight, well-plotted Grisham style and populated by believable characters living in a novel with gothic flavoring.
