GRIST MILL ROAD, by Christopher J. Yates
Mystery/Thriller -- 5 stars
In an idyllic hamlet north of New York City, newly minted teens Matthew and Patrick are inseparable. The summer of 1982 is spent in the forest amid the mountains where they have their own secret games and hidden places. The day that Matthew invites Hannah to join them changes everything when it ends in a seemingly senseless crime. Twenty-six years later, the three meet again. This time the ending is even more tragic, but not before misunderstandings are examined, secrets are revealed, and lies are exposed. ----- A complex story with twists and surprises and an "if only" ending. Sad, exciting, frustrating, and satisfying.
