ALTAR OF EDEN, by James Rollins

Mystery/Thriller -- 3 1/2 stars

During the fall of Baghdad, armed men loot the zoo and escape with samples from a secret underground lab.  Seven years later, a shipwrecked fishing trawler is found on a remote Louisiana island, but instead of fish, the boat is filled with unusual, mutated animals all of them possessed with incredibly increased intelligence.  Who is responsible and what is their purpose? ----- I have a love-hate relationship with James Rollins.  Whoever writes his cover blurbs deserves his own Pulitzer because I fall for them every time.  Most of the time, I am completely underwhelmed.  This time, I have to admit it went a step beyond meh.  The characters were interesting if a little too over the top (a kid's camp on an unfenced alligator farm?), but if you're ready for a fast-moving, B-movie, action thriller, you'll enjoy this book.
